Fall/Winter 2012 Trend: The Best of Baroque Fashion!

[box border=”full”]Fall/Winter 2012 is all about rich textiles and extravagant styling! And what’s more rich or extravagant than this seasons Baroque trend?! We take a look at the Best of Baroque from Fashion Week to High Street![/box]

When it comes to fall 2012 fashion trends, more is definitely more! Whether it’s more print at Prada, more madness at Meadham Kirchhoff or more monochrome-than-usual at Mary Katrantzou, more means more.

It means indulgence, drama, exaggeration, it’s Baroque! And while some of the seasons designers may have merely picked up on the notion of Baroque, others looked to the 17th century movement for some serious FW12 trend inspiration!

From Fashion Week to High Street

Dolce & Gabbana acting as the major trend ambassadors of the Baroque look go all out with thick, golden, embroidered filigree atop luxurious black textures, truly intense surface embellishments and painterly floral frocks – taking inspiration not only from the art but the architecture, the interior decor. Think grande chandeliers and gilt frames!

Marchesa FW12 took inspiration from William-Adolphe Bouguereau’s famous painting ‘A Soul Brought to Heaven’ with intricate embroidery on high shine, gold dresses, heavenly winged motifs and in a dark but delicate twist showing dresses with intricate skeletal lacing.

The Best of High Street Baroque

Elsewhere, the High Street is preparing for this fashion trend with plenty of brocade prints, luscious fabrics and extravagant jewellery for the trend lover in all of us! Find sleek tailored trousers from Next and Marks & Spencer or for an all out top-to-toe look check out for River Island’s AW12 lookbook for one-stop Baroque and why not give a nod to Dolce & Gabbana in accessories from ASOS and Topshop?

So, you weren’t convinced this was a look you’d be trying out this winter, but now you are, right? Because nobody should be without at least one piece of Baroque fashion this year! I’ll be on the hunt for some of these lovely Jacquard trousers to team with a nice black Tee and some statement jewellery! But if you really just aren’t brave enough to wear it yourself, there’s nothing to stop your sofa wearing it. This trend is a great excuse for a little antiques shopping before the holiday season! So get on it!

Let us know what you think of this years fast sweeping Baroque trend!
