Swimwear Trend 2013: Hot and high-waisted

From runway to reef, the high-waisted bikini is one of the hottest new pieces straight off the catwalk for this season. With designers like Lisa Blue, Norma Kamali and Mara Hoffman taking inspiration from this iconic 50’s trend, summer now has a certain je ne sais quoi.

Looking va va voom has never been so simple. Whether you’re shark cage diving in South Africa, swimming with the fish in Tenerife or simply enjoying a cocktail while soaking up the sun on the beachfront, you’re ultimate holiday ‘outfit’ is just waiting to be bought.

But how bold do you really have to be to strut your stuff in this two-piece? Putting one or two odd tan lines aside, the high waist is flattering for everyone. Oozing sex appeal for boyish shapes and hugging a more curvaceous figure for a comfortable yet cheeky look.

And with celebs like Taylor Swift, Naomi Watts and Kim Catrell hitting the waves in theirs, it’s quite obvious the time has come to embrace retro glam and get your bod into one of these beauties.

High-Waisted Bikinis

The Black Gem Cage bikini from Topshop is a favourite – simple, sexy and only £40.

Add a splash of sailor chic to your holiday in this dotted or striped swimsuit, both from Very at £32 and £25.

In true 50’s style, try this Polka dot bikini from Urban Outfitters for £35, or find the perfect match in this suit from Next when you’re feeling floral (£36)

No outfit is ever complete without accessories. Playfully pair your bikini with a paisley bandana in your hair or cat eye sunglasses for a pin up look. And don’t forget bright red lips for an irresistible pout.

Convinced? Pick your favourite now to be transported to a world of whimsy and share it with us and your friends.
