Mambo Number 5: Packing Light with these Five Key Items

Deciding what to take on holiday can be a real nightmare, especially when you want to be prepared for both day and night. I have taken on the task of finding five versatile items that tick all the boxes for holiday style. Now, obviously you wouldn’t generally jump on a plane to somewhere tropical with just five things, but hopefully this can get you thinking about different ways to style your favourite holiday pieces and avoid unncessarily taking half your wardrobe away with you, which most of us are guilty of!

If you want tips for packing light, look no further. Here are 5 key items for your suitcase!

Item 1: One Piece Swim Suit

The new styles of swimsuits, with sexy cut outs and glam detailing can double up as a top, which you can wear with a skirt, just like you’d wear a body. Choose one that is flattering and is a cool print, so it can be worn out for drinks in the evening, as well as by the pool.

Try these from Asos.

Left to right, French Connection £48, Mouille £99, Ted Baker £69.

Item 2: Tube Skirt

Now, it might not be the most glamourous thing in the world to do, but in the name of versatility, a tube skirt can serve you both as a long skirt for evening, and a short mini for trotting to the beach in the day time. Be sure to choose a colour or print that complements the one piece you’ve chosen, or be brave and choose some wrong but right clashing prints!

Item 3: Wedges

Its certainly no secret that wedges are somehow ten times more comfortable than stiletto heels or even block heels, making them a popular choice for weddings, beach breaks and city stays. Finding the right pair can see you through your holiday, being both comfortable and casual for daytime but still glam enough for dinner in the evening.

Item 4:

Cover Up Finding the right poolside cover up actually offers tons of possible wear options, and can be really versatile. One at a slightly longer length can double up as a mini dress, or as a top with a tube skirt.

Item 5: Beauty

Very few of us could travel with just one item of makeup, so finding one item that can function as more than its face value is key here, as is working with what comes naturally while on holiday. For example, sunny holidays should give your face a bit of colour and glow, so the foundation can stay back in the UK. If you’re lucky, the sun and sand creates a natural beachy texture for your hair, so styling products can stay behind too. I like to leave eyeliner for heavier makeup looks, which doesn’t really complement the natural sunkissed style, so leave your kohl pencil on your dresser too! I personally suggest going for a eye lip and cheek tint, to liven up your face and enhance your pretty, healthy holiday glow. You can use them on your eyelids for a shadow effect, as a lip shimmer/colour, and to brighten up your cheeks as a blush.
