Make-up Trends for Summer 2013

With a new season brings some new beauty ideas, and we think you’ll have fun with some of these Summer 2013 makeup trends.

On a summer vacation, less is definitely more when it comes to makeup, but that doesn’t mean you can’t add a dash of bold colour to your makeup palette! We’ve noticed this season it’s all about bringing attention to one feature, and keeping the rest of your face rather subtle and simple. You could emphasise your eyes with coloured eyeliner, jewelled lids, fluttery lashes and metallic shadow, or you could opt for bright fuchsia lipstick to give your lips a dash of neon colour.

Introducing the hottest Summer 2013 Makeup Trends…

Look-at-me Eyes

Not just for the party season, the smokey eyes look is all over this summer’s catwalks. This look is all about molten metallic shades, bold lines and heaps of eyeliner. To achieve this smouldering make-up must, build up colour with shimmering eye shadows, fanning the powder into a winged shape and finishing with a bold line of eye-liner on both the top and bottom contours of the eyes. Balance out the striking look of the eyes with simple and understated hair and lips. Long, feathery, over-the-top eyelashes are also on trend, so don’t be afraid to break out the false eyelashes!

Get the look with Shu Uemura Natural Volume False Eyelashes ($20) or Eyelure Super Full False Eyelashes ($6)

Flirty Festival Patterns

With the likes of Glastonbury fast approaching, eye make-up trends take a rapid turn towards fun and flirtatious patterns. Now is the time to get a little creative. Animal prints and pattern designs are set to be popular this season, alongside bright eye-shadows and funky polka dots.

Neon Brights

Fresh, fun and flirty. Show you’re not afraid of colour this season by daring to step out of the shadows and into the brights.

Neon hues are set to be huge this spring/summer but candy pinks and pastel blues are also trending on the catwalks. Whether it is neon pink lipstick or pale blue eye-shadow, make your make-up pop with vivid colour choices that will attract all the right attention.

Make sure you keep all your brights in one area – keep to either the eyes or the lips, never both. If you don’t fancy going all out with straight away, bold colour can be easily introduced by adding a simple line of colour above the lid – perfect for colour beginners.

For a fantastic bright lipstick try Mac Girl About Town ($15) and for color eyeliner, we suggest Nars Eyeliner Stylo ($27) Nars Larger than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner ($24)  or Elizabeth Arden Color Intrigue in Ocean Teal ($22.50)

Go Nude

The fresh spring and summer months are the perfect time to let your natural beauty shine through. Definitely the most simple and timeless spring/summer look, the fresh-faced nude palette requires little more than a good tinted moisturiser and a matte powder. A little pale pink blusher adds that glow to those easily achieved velvety textures.

Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend

Okay, so perhaps using diamonds in your daily make-up routine is a little bit excessive, but diamante additions to your make-up palette are a definite must-try for this season.

Taking direction from Christian Dior, why not try glamming up your make-up by adding that touch of sparkle. Monochrome jewels scattered around the eyes when working bold evening make-up adds that touch of vintage glamour and creative allure. If you’re thinking of adding sparkle to your daytime look, carefully placed gems on candy coloured lips looks fantastic, and perfect for the festival season.

Statement Lips

Think Marilyn Monroe, Madonna, Dita Von Teese, and all those vintage glamour vixens. From neon pink to metallic blue, brilliant red to citrus orange, it doesn’t matter what colour lipstick you pick this season to pull off the statement lips look as long as it packs a punch.
